Welcome to the Exeter Police Department Citizens Volunteer web page!
We’re a small group of people who work with the police department and within the community to help make Exeter stay the beautiful little valley town that it has always been.
If you believe that you have something to contribute please consider joining our team. Even if your abilities are limited we can still almost always find a niche for people who possess a generous sense of community. For instance, you could help some of Exeter’s home-bound citizens by keeping them company, or occasionally driving them to the store. There are many things that you could do that will make life better for the citizens of Exeter, and make Exeter a better place for you to live!
It is the desire of the Exeter Police Department to develop an organization of volunteers with a wide range of experiences and expertise that might be shared throughout the community, to further enhance the quality of life for those living in this wonderful city.
If you think you’d like to join us, or if you need our help, please call the Exeter Police Department at (559)592-3103 or use our contact page.

Volunteers In Action
Police Departments and Citizen Volunteers are not an uncommon sight these days. We at the Exeter Police Department want to take the idea of the citizen volunteer to a new level. It is our vision that our “Volunteers In Action” be a part of the entire community, mobilized to help in as many areas of the community as possible. Our vision is to become a resource organization of many individuals with varied skills and abilities who are willing to reach out and share those skills and abilities with others.
The primary function of the Exeter Police Department has and will always be the protection of life and property, and enforcement of the law.
But we would like to be more than that. In order to realize our vision of enhanced community service we need your help. Just a few hours per month is all it could take.
Why Are Volunteers Important?
Law enforcement volunteer programs are not intended to replace sworn officers or civilian personnel. Rather, to supplement and enhance existing or envisioned functions to allow law enforcement professionals to do their job in the most effective manner.
Volunteers can provide innumerable benefits to a law enforcement agency.
They can help enhance public safety and services, maximize existing resources, and create valuable ties between law enforcement and members of the community. Investing in a volunteer program can help sworn and civilian employees fulfill their primary functions and provide services that may not otherwise be offered.

A Safer Community Through Service & Pride
How Do I Get Involved?
To become a member of the Exeter Police Department’s Citizen Volunteer Program you must be 21 years or older. Be of good moral character with a strong desire to make our community a safer place to live, shop and play. It is not necessary to be a resident of Exeter but have a desire to support our community through volunteer service.
A background investigation will be conducted on all potential applicants to include any criminal history and driving record. A criminal history will not disqualify an applicant from participation, depending on the nature of the offenses.
Upon selection into the program, all volunteers will be required to attend a Citizen’s Volunteer Academy. This will be taught by members of the Exeter Police Department. Instruction will include Policies & Procedures of the police department and the City of Exeter, Patrol Procedures, Radio Communications, Traffic Control, Crime Scene Containment, and Driver Awareness to name but a few.
Applications can be obtained at the lobby of the police department.
